Dr Maya Mistry

Born in Coventry, I studied in Nottingham and completed GP training in 2012 from Derby. When starting my family, I moved to Essex and joined Greenwood Surgery in 2017.

On introduction of the Primary Care Network in 2019, Dr Patel and I were nominated Clinical Directors of South Woodham Ferrers Primary Care Network. This role allows us to be at the forefront of developing and improving local primary care. I am a passionate about improving patient care and have an active role as GP Lead for Greenwood Surgery carrying out weekly ward rounds for our local care home residents.

Since joining, I have been enthusiastic in supporting the Greenwood Surgery team to continuously develop, update and utilise digital technology and systems to provide our patients with the best care possible.

When do I work?
I have clinics on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. My administration days are Monday and Wednesday.

I have lived in South Woodham Ferrers since 1987, moving from the East End of London. My career before joining Greenwood and Wyncroft Surgery eleven years ago was as a manager for Royal Mail which I did for 23 years.

I enjoy spending my free time with my 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

I have worked for the NHS for over 20 years and have currently been at Greenwood Surgery for 10 years as Secretary to the practice, which I enjoy.   I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as listening to music, reading, and walking my two dogs in my spare time.

Shannon Smith

My name is Shannon, I started as Reception Manager at Greenwood Surgery in September 2019. I have worked here for just over 6 years and I am now the Assistant Practice Manager. I have worked in the NHS since I was 17 years old, working my way up to my current role. As well as assisting the Practice Manager, I deal with the accounts and the surgery’s social media, and I am always around to be a helping hand to all staff and patients at the surgery. Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym and being with family!

I have been working in general practice for the last 9 years; 7 of those have been with Greenwood Surgery.  I started as a receptionist when I had 2 very young children, at a practice in Basildon and progressed to become a Practice Manager.  My role is very challenging but enjoyable.  I believe that maintaining a hardworking, productive and effective workforce ensures we get great results.  I am very fortunate to have a great team who ensure patient care is a priority.

Outside of work I have a busy family life and I enjoy reading and socialising with friends.

I have been working for Greenwood Surgery for just over 1 year. I joined the practice with Dr Mistry as I worked with her for a number of years at a different surgery.

 I started working for the NHS 8 years ago as a GP receptionist then decided to expand my role and became a HCA which I have been doing for 5 years.

In my role as a HCA I can provide phlebotomy, health checks, diabetic checks, wound care, flu clinics, injections which include b12/shingles/pneumonia.

I have two teenage children and love spending time at home and socialising with friends and colleagues.

I work Monday to Thursday.

I’ve worked in General Practice for 17 years and have been at Greenwood Surgery for 4 years.  I qualified as an HCA/Phlebotomist in 2010. As a Healthcare Assistant my role is to support the nursing team providing blood tests, BP checks, ECG’s,  health checks, wound care, suture removal, B12,  flu and pneumonia jabs.  I also have an administrative role.

I have always worked in a people focussed environment and have a background in catering and hospitality.

I’m family orientated and have parents, siblings, children and grandchildren in Maldon where I was born and live.  I’m an ‘outdoor girl’ and row competitively in a team of four.   I also enjoy sailing, cycling, camping and hill walking.

Karen Simkins

I have enjoyed working for Greenwood Surgery for two and a half years.

I Qualified as a registered general nurse in 1984 and had various positions in hospital before working in the community first as a District nurse and then joining general practice.

I gained my Nurse Practitioner BSc in 2009 and have worked as an Advanced Nurse practitioner since then. My special interest is in respiratory medicine managing chronic lung disorders.

Outside of work I have 2 beautiful young grandchildren whom I love to spend time with.

I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

I have come from Basildon Accident and Emergency working as an experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioner.  I am skilled in assessing, diagnosing, requesting investigations and referring.

I am keen to do all things practical and am enjoying my time in primary care.
