‘First Contact Practitioners’ (FCP) for Musculoskeletal conditions

Dr Maya Mistry General Practitioner at Greenwood Surgery

21 st August 2021

We are excited to introduce…

First Contact Practitioners (FCP’s) working at Greenwood Surgery on Monday and Wednesdays

What are FCP’s?

FCP’s are qualified physiotherapists skilled at triaging (assessing) musculoskeletal conditions.

What does an FCP do?

FCP’s remotely assess patients who call the surgery with a musculoskeletal symptom (pain, swelling, pins and needles or limited movement) AND either offer self management therapies OR decide that a face to face examination is needed and arrange this. Some may also perform steroid injections and prescribe relevant medication.

Why should I see an FCP?

Staff will direct certain, common, musculoskeletal symptoms in the first instance to the FCP’s. This allows patients to consult with the relevant specialist at an earlier stage, reducing delays for specialist treatments/advice.

Initially a telephone consultation will be booked by reception, after which a management plan will be agreed and/or face to face appointment organised if needed.
